This February I was honored to join Santa Cruz Public Library's community event series, Our Community Reads. Participants from across the county read Barbara Kingsolver's climate change-inspired novel Flight Behavior, and gathered to learn and discuss its themes of beauty, displacement, and coping with loss. For our evening together, along with my co-panelist Catherine Courtier, I shared about my work as an ecologist in the era of accelerating climate change. In particular, I got to highlight researchers studying tree range shifts, and describe my research on forests' role in the global Carbon Cycle.
It was wonderful to meet new people in the Santa Cruz community, and hear their questions about how we can be a part of climate solutions.

I was lead student planner for the UC Davis ecology grad group's orientation trip, "The Odyssey," for four years. In this longstanding program, returning students mentor the incoming cohort of graduate students as they travel to various UC Reserves. Based on feedback from student surveys, we updated the trip itinerary to be more inclusive and accessible for all students.
During grad school, I was a co-editor of The Aggie Brickyard, the UC Davis Grad Group in Ecology student magazine. We featured updates from student committees, news about student research and publications, and art and creative writing from members of the GGE.
